Microtrends Computing Services Inc. is a privately held Ontario Corporation incorporated in 1988. It originally began its business by offering consulting services for implementation of new technologies to small and medium scale insurance brokerages that were seeking various micro automation solutions.

As the company began exploring growth opportunities, it was invited into a new project for the human resources industry to analyze customer needs, conceptualize and develop an applicant resume tracking system. This project was followed by a contract to develop two different insurance software solutions for one of Canada’s largest insurance brokerages. From these projects later spawned two of the company’s flagship software products – ProHunt (Recruiting Management Software) and BMS (Benefit Management System).

While the company began successfully marketing and implementing these software solutions, it came across several new growth opportunities and gained invaluable experience in developing software products that were highly niche-driven and targeted to distinct vertical markets. Microtrends was contracted and contributed as key consultants in re-designing Empire Life’s present EBAdmin system for benefits administration and billing. In addition, the company’s BMS software was private labeled for Empire’s and Standard Life’s self-administration clients. The private label software package for Standard Life was branded as “Virtuoso” and was implemented in hundreds of Standard Life's clients over the next 10 years.

Nonetheless, the company’s biggest opportunity was somewhat accidental and reluctantly undertaken during 1993. It was an offer to design and develop software for one of Toronto’s most prestigious Spa operators. After two years of development and implementation, Microtrends formed a partnership with CPM Consultants located in Los Angeles to market this new software to an emerging Spa industry in North America and Europe. This product was named SpaSoft and it achieved such great success that as of April/1998 a separate company was formed as Chronologix Software Inc to further develop, finance and advance the product's market share.

Microtrends began exploring web-based development and in 2003 and signed a large contract by Pottruff & Smith Travel Insurance Brokers Inc (now owned by Manulife) to convert their legacy software to an enterprise web-based solution for travel insurance policy & claims management. After this project was completed, the company began focusing in converting its own legacy BMS software to its flagship FlexTPA Software and has been working directly with its strategic partners to further develop and advance software solutions exclusively for the group benefits industry.
